Of the 5 species of owl in the UK, Barn Owls are the most closely linked to human activity, often choosing to roost in or near to farm buildings, utilising protection from the elements and the surrounding farmland to hunt. However, modernisation and security of farm buildings have reduced nesting opportunity.

Barn Owl nest boxes are a very effective method of increasing nesting cavities and offering a safe breeding site, with different owl species requiring different nest box designs. Boxes can be bought from various manufacturers online or can be made if time and materials are at hand.
